MEDIA ALERT - Ten Canadian Student Teams Compete in First Canadian National CyberTitan Competition on May 16 in Fredericton, NB

FREDERICTON, NB, May 11, 2018 /CNW/ -

What: The National Finals for CyberTitan, a Canadian cyber security competition and education initiative that promotes education and awareness in technology, will take place in Fredericton on May 16. Out of 92 teams from high schools and middle schools across Canada, 10 teams have secured the coveted all-expenses-paid trip to compete in an all-day cyber security competition.

Interview opportunities are available on the days leading up to the event, on the day of the event prior to the competition start time, or in the days following the Finals. Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) who delivers the initiative has spokespeople available to discuss why this was an important initiative to bring to Canada, and what it means for the future of cyber security in Canada and on a global scale.

Date & Times:       

Youth Summit - Tuesday, May 15, 2018, 7am5pm

  • Photo/ Video Opps – 12:00 – 1:00 pm (introducing the CyberTitan teams) 
  • Interviews can be scheduled with coaches, industry experts and participating students throughout the day except during the lunch hour (listed above) 

Competition Day - Wednesday, May 16, 2018, 7:30 am5 pm

  • Photo/ Video Opps - 7:30 – 8:00 am; 4:30 – 5:00 pm
  • Winners Announced – 4:30 – 5:00 pm
  • Interviews can be scheduled with coaches and industry experts throughout the day, or briefly with the winning team at 4:50 pm.

Where:  

The Youth Summit and CyberTitan Competition will be held at the Crowne Plaza Fredericton – Lord Beaverbrook hotel, 659 Queen Street, Fredericton, NB.

The award ceremony will be held across the street at the Fredericton Convention Centre, 670 Queen Street, Fredericton, NB.

What else you need to know: The first of its kind in Canada this year, CyberTitan is focused on promoting education and awareness in technology education and fostering excellence in students pursuing careers in cyber security or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) areas. Delivered by Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC), it seeks to prepare the next generation of students with skills necessary to protect our governments, industries, and individuals from global cyber security threats.
