MultiTech University IoT Program Gains Momentum and Expands to Include Cellular Products

Continues to Create Opportunities for the Future Generation of Communication Technologists in the Exploding LoRaWAN™ Market

MOUNDS VIEW, Minn. (PRWEB) February 13, 2018

Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of M2M and IoT communication devices, today announced the MultiTech University IoT Program, launched by the company in the Spring of 2017, is gaining momentum at Universities nationwide. The program provides students with the necessary tools and education to learn and apply new connectivity technologies. The trailblazing program initially focused on Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWAN) using LoRaWAN™. LPWAN is a wireless network designed for long range communications using low power consumption and a low data rate to connect a wide variety of "things". However, the company is now expanding the program to include access to all of its award-winning cellular products.

"MultiTech's University IoT Program enabled us to easily evaluate the MultiConnect® Conduit™ LoRa® gateway against our needs," said Bob Iannucci, Ph.D., Distinguished Service Professor and the Director of the CyLab Mobility Research Center at Carnegie Mellon University. "I like the direction they are moving with their communication technology and we are using the Conduit in our LoRa technology development. "

Since its launch, the LPWAN market has grown from 1.01 billion in 2016 to a projected 24.46 billion by 2021, further reinforcing the opportunity for future technologists and educational institutions. MultiTech's program has evolved to include numerous new universities.

With no cost to join, discounts on products, and consistent onsite and technical support, MultiTech's University IoT Program introduces the following benefits:

  • Opportunity to work with a leader in both LoRaWAN and cellular technology and standards
  • Integrated, standards based, product kits
  • Discounted products for evaluation
  • Developers website portal: http://www.multitech.net
  • Visibility of the Universities program with press releases, case studies and workshops

Members also receive access to MultiTech's relationships with a wide range of ecosystem partners.

Last year, MultiTech kicked off the program with a successful Hackathon at the University of New Hampshire, in Durham, New Hampshire. Since that time, students at the University are engaging in multiple projects both within and outside of the campus, involving LoRa and utilizing the MultiTech's MultiConnect® mDot™, an inexpensive LoRaWAN ready, low-power wide area network (LPWAN) RF module.

"Following the Spring Hackathon, we started using LoRa technology in a research project to monitor the entrances to multiple parking lots on campus," said Christina Dube, Research Program Manager for the Connectivity Research Center (CRC) at University of New Hampshire. "We also have plans to expand our use of LoRA and MultiTech's mDots in other research projects by adding them to our greenhouses, local farms and campus lighting. In addition, we are using LoRa to monitor available parking spaces at our facility. The University IoT Program has provided the CRC with technology and expertise that enable us to pursue our mission to develop a more connected campus and world."
