Grenada's citizenship programme holds the key to immigration into the US

LONDON, Feb. 21, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In his speech to world leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 26, US president Donald Trump referred to his economic achievements during his first year in office. These included cutting corporation tax, lowering the unemployment rate and growing the economy by 1.5 percent to 2.3 percent in 2017.

The US, according to Trump, is more attractive than ever to foreign investment. In his own words: "there has never been a better time to hire, to build, to invest and to grow in the United States. America is open for business and we are competitive once again."

Getting into the US has always been a challenge, but this has now been made a whole lot easier by Grenada's Citizenship By Investment programme (CBI) and the E2 Investor Visa.

Entry to the US for foreign nationals is typically achieved by getting a "green card" – the EB-5, which is notoriously difficult. You can also enter and live in the US with an E-2 Investor Visa, but this is only available to citizens of countries that have a bilateral investor visa treaty with the US. Grenada has such a treaty.

Grenada's CBI programme is quick and easy – foreign nationals can become Grenadian citizens by buying property in government-approved projects, such as Kimpton Kawana Bay. Grenadian citizens can then acquire a majority stake in a US business venture and apply for an E-2 Investor Visa.

Indeed, Grenada is the only country in the world that has both a bilateral investment treaty with the US and an active CBI programme, through which the E-2 Investor Visa is obtained.

E-2 Investor Visa holders and their spouses can live and work anywhere in the US, while children under the age of 21 can attend public or private schools.
