Salvation Army Submits Plan For New Multi-Program Facility and Community Hub

OTTAWA, June 22, 2017 /CNW/ - The Salvation Army has submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of 333 Montreal Road in Vanier.  The new 103,000 square foot multi-program facility is designed to serve a broad range of community needs and act as a catalyst to the redevelopment of Montreal Road.

The facility will include 4 different on-site housing models revolving around a supportive hub of day programs and services. These housing models include Emergency Accommodations, Working Men and Life Skills Residential program, Stabilization and Anchorage Addictions program and the Special Care Unit.

The new Community Hub will be warm and bright with large windows, dignified living quarters, outdoor terraces and green spaces with gardens that are secure. It will be home to a bright central dining facility, counseling services, skills training, chaplaincy and worship, housing referrals, outreach services and Emergency Disaster Services. Our Community and Family Services and Thrift Store will also be located here with street access.  

In support of the city's 10 year Homelessness Plan, The Salvation Army embraces the Housing First philosophy which prioritizes independent living with community supports. As we locate appropriate housing for individuals we ensure supports are in place and maintained with regular visits from our mobile case workers.

This hub is also intended as a vehicle to engage the broader community. Here, volunteers and clients can interact in a space which features a large room connected to an open terrace, and could also be used for other community-based activities.
