2017 Recipient of Hasir Charitable Fund: Hawaii Literacy

Honolulu, HI, March 23, 2017 --(PR.com)-- The Hawaii Affiliates of Sotheby's International Realty (HASIR) Charitable Fund at Hawaii Community Foundation (HCF) made a presentation to the fund's 2017 grant recipient, Hawaii Literacy, on Friday March 10th at the Kahala office of LIST Sotheby's International Realty, 4211 Waialae Avenue, Suite 100 in Honolulu.

Sotheby's International Realty presented a check in the amount of $20,000 to Hawaii Literacy Board President Scott Simon and Hawaii Literacy Assistant Director Shayna Yatsushiro. In his opening remarks, List Sotheby's International Senior VP, Chuck Garrett introduced the other representatives of HASIR, Ryan McLaughlin of Island Sotheby's International Realty on Maui, Dodie MacArthur of MacArthur Sotheby's International Realty on the Big Island, Donna Apisa of Oceanfront Sotheby's International Realty on Kauai and Myra Brandt of LIST Sotheby's International Realty on Oahu. "We founded the HASIR fund in 2014 to give our agents, employees and clients the opportunity to support the future of our Islands," said Megan. She continued, "It's all about charity and being proactive."

Receiving the 2017 donation, Scott Simon expressed his appreciation for the selection of Hawaii Literacy as this year's beneficiary of the HASIR fund. Scott shared, "we – the community of learners, volunteers, and staff at Hawaii Literacy – are incredibly grateful to the HASIR Charitable Fund and Sotheby's International Realty team of caring professionals for their generous contribution facilitated by the Hawaii Community Foundation." He added, "the commitment of the HASIR Charitable Fund to making a meaningful difference in the lives of disadvantaged keiki and adults across our islands is both inspiring and empowering."

Hawaii Literacy is the state's leading non-profit provider of free literacy and education services, offering 1-on-1 adult literacy tutoring, family libraries and after-school programs at Kuhio Park Towers and Mayor Wright Homes, English language classes, and a Bookmobile that serves low-income communities along the Waianae coast. Since 1971, Hawaii Literacy has trained and equipped volunteer literacy tutors to help others learn to read. Each year, over 3,000 people across Oahu, Kauai, and Hawaii Island work to build the basic literacy skills they need to fill out a job application, read a book, help their kids with homework, and more!
