Launch of Mobile/Web-Based App Aims to Quickly Treat Sexually Transmitted Infections

Chicago, IL, November 18, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Segun Ishmael is a Chicago native and ER doctor. He is now the founder of the STI treatment app, Besafemeds. The app has officially launched as of this month. All communication with medical professionals remain confidential. Because of the stigma associated with STIs, personal identifiable data is purged from the system to further maintain privacy.

This new app provides the service of choosing one's symptoms, inputting allergies and then speaking to a medical professional — doctor or nurse practitioner. The MD or NP will then take a history and determine what treatment, if any, is needed or whether further testing is required. The closest pharmacies to the user is determined within the app through geo-locating and location settings on their device. The user can then choose from this list of pharmacies. The prescription determined is then sent electronically to their chosen pharmacy.

Dr. Ishmael received his medical degree in Nigeria, Africa in his twenties. He then moved back home to the United States to begin working in the Chicagoland area. Dr. Ishmael has a background in academic, administrative medicine, health insurance and today works at Paris Community Hospital in Paris, Illinois.

Sexually transmitted diseases are at an all time high. One in every four students have one or more STIs — That's just our college campuses. According to CBS Local News, there are 110 million Americans with STIs at any given time. Half of new cases occur in people 15-24 years old. Due to budget cuts, STI care and prevention programs are becoming less accessible, resulting in the substantial rise of cases. And people are using the ER as a treatment source. With the associated stigma some are just avoiding treatment all together.

Dr. Ishmael is preparing for the beginning of a revolutionary way of medical diagnosis and treatment using technology. "We have to provide treatment options to a population of people that are unwilling or unable to access traditional healthcare resources," shared Dr. Ishmael.
