Pawnbrokers Aim to Aid Schools and Children Affected by Flooding and Natural Catastrophes on Gift Day 2016

Gift Day 2016 is right around the corner, and now it's your turn to give back on December 6. It's time to help those in need on National Pawnbrokers Association Musical Instrument Gift Day!

Keller, TX (PRWEB) November 22, 2016

On December 6, 2016, the National Pawnbrokers Association (NPA) is celebrating its eighth annual Musical Instrument Gift Day, where pawnbrokers from around the country make generous donations of musical instruments to organizations in need.

In response to recent natural disasters that have occurred in the U.S., the NPA is encouraging members to donate new or gently used musical instruments and monetary gifts to The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation. The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation keeps music alive in our schools by donating musical instruments to under-funded music programs nationwide. December 6th is also National Pawnbrokers Day, which coincides with St. Nicholas Day. Saint Nicholas of Myra is famed for his generosity to the poor and for his penchant for secretly leaving gifts for people in need. St. Nicholas, recognized in America as Santa Claus, was canonized as the Patron Saint of pawnbroking, and his three bags of gold soon became the international symbol of pawnbrokers.

Felice Mancini, the President and CEO of The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, states, "For many students affected by recent flooding, storms and tornadoes across the country, going back to school means sitting in a makeshift classroom trailer, returning to a shelter instead of their own beds, and living without cherished possessions."

The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation has helped NPA members contribute to multiple schools and put musical instruments into the hands of young musicians since 2012. Mrs. Mancini, the daughter of famed composer and educator Henry Mancini goes on to say, "We know that music heals and helps children cope." The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation was inspired by the acclaimed motion picture, Mr. Holland's Opus, the story of the profound effect a dedicated music teacher had on generations of students.

The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation donates musical instruments to under-funded schools across the country in an effort to give students the many benefits of music education, help them achieve more in school and inspire creativity and expression through playing music. Hundreds of thousands of students have benefited and thousands of instruments have been donated to 1,441 school music programs across the country.
