International Precious Metals Hosts Exclusive Event With Acclaimed Former U.S. Mint Director Edmund C. Moy
SILSBEE, TX --(Marketwired - May 24, 2016) - International Precious Metals recently hosted an exclusive engagement with the respected economist, author, television commentator and former director of the United States Mint Edmund C. Moy. The special presentation and book signing took place at International Precious Metals headquarters in Silsbee, Texas. Mr. Moy was sworn in as the 38th director of the United States Mint after being appointed by George W. Bush and unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate. As Mint Director, Moy was in charge of the world's largest organizations that manufacture circulating coins, precious metal bullion and numismatic products.
Prior to his celebrated tenure at the U.S. Mint, Moy served from 2001-2006 at the White House as a Special Assistant to President George W. Bush, aiding in the advising in selection of presidential appointments. Moy recommended candidates for high level political positions in various governmental organizations. He also was responsible for filling political posts in independent agencies including the Social Security Administration, National Endowment for the Arts, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, National Mediation Board and Nuclear Regulatory Commission. In addition, Moy was responsible for staffing high-ranking positions in the U.S. Department of Justice and Office of National Drug Control Policy. Mr. Moy was at the White House during the September 11th, 2001 terror attacks and was subsequently tasked to be a part of the efforts to form the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He resigned his commission from the White House to become the 38th director of the United States Mint, a position he held for a distinguished 5-year term after officially being sworn in the month of September 2006. His role included working closely with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the White House, Congress, and the Federal Reserve during the Financial Crisis and following Great Recession.
Moy is often credited by his colleagues for introducing technological innovations at the United States Mint. He brought the facility into the 21st Century by utilizing advances in digital imaging design, advances in breakaway dies and the testing of compression techniques. The technical achievements that Moy oversaw ultimately led to the creation of the 2009 Ultra High Relief Coin, notable for coin collectors as the modern minting of a Saint Gaudens double eagle coin and a difficult project that he called a "labor of love". His term also included unprecedented demand for gold and silver bullion, the end of the 50 State Quarter program, the start of the Presidential $1 Coin, the National Parks Quarter program and the introduction of the 24 Karat American Gold Buffalo series. Mr. Moy's public service as Mint Director is also highlighted for adding over $1 billion of surplus to the Treasury General Fund.
A lifelong coin collector, Moy wrote the highly sought after reference book from Whitman Publishing: American Gold and Platinum Eagles. He is a frequent commentator on monetary and fiscal policy, gold, currency and cryptocurrencies for national financial media. Moy has been featured on CBS (including 60 Minutes), PBS (including the Jim Lehrer News Hour) and appears regularly on CNBC, Fox News, Fox Business Channel, MSNBC and Bloomberg TV. The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today, Fortune, Forbes, Dow Jones and Thomson Reuters quote him frequently and he is a contributor to Newsmax. In 2015, he signed an exclusive contract with the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation(R) (NGC(R)) to create limited-edition certification labels that will be individually hand-signed by the former Mint Director.
"It's an honor to host Mr. Moy as our special guest," said President and Chief Executive Officer Barry Jepson. "He is a true patriot and his passion regarding the symbolism of American coinage showed what an expert he is in this field. Mr. Moy's insight into current events regarding economics, politics and fiscal policy helped to frame a powerful presentation." He added, "He spoke eloquently about portfolio diversification with precious metals such as gold, silver, and platinum coins. Mr. Moy also made a compelling case as for why his signature coins stand out in the certified coin grading market. I know that many precious metals companies will never have the chance to visit and talk with a former Mint Director. I can speak for all us when I say that we feel privileged and are very thankful for the opportunity we had today."
