Dwell on Design Returns to New York City this October as Dwell Magazine Celebrates 15th Anniversary

Expanding to Skylight Clarkson Sq and Focusing on Industry Hot Topics—The Business of Design, Authenticity, Resiliency, and Furniture & Product Design; Keynote Conversation Led by Pulitzer Prize–Winning Author and Vanity Fair Architecture Critic Paul Goldberger With Architect and Sci-Arc Director Eric Owen Moss

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 02, 2015

On the heels of a record-breaking show in Los Angeles and following the sale of the flagship event to Informa, Dwell on Design returns to New York October 2–4 for a content-rich three-day event featuring out-of-the-box installations and more than 35 onstage presentations from groundbreaking industry professionals. Dwell Design Week—running September 28 through October 4—will include a kickoff event, 15th-anniversary party, showroom events, Dwell on Design, and the ever-popular Meet the Architects night, accompanying the Dwell Manhattan Home Tour. The show's growing footprint required a move to Skylight Clarkson Sq in West SoHo this year, where 5,000+ visitors will explore 60,000 square feet of installations and attend thought-provoking discussions on two stages.

After 10 years of landmark exhibitions, Dwell on Design Los Angeles has become the largest design trade show in the U.S. and a unique design destination that allows visitors to explore the newest trends, tour coveted homes, attend lively conversations, and network face-to-face with industry leaders. Dwell on Design New York will continue to take an edited approach to complement the West Coast show, assembling a more intimate group of trade professionals and consumers for talks and panels tackling the industry's most significant of-the-moment topics, from the business of design and resiliency to navigating the changing landscape of authenticity in design, and furniture and product design.

The onstage programming will include "Reimagining a More Resilient New York," "How Hurricane Sandy Changed Building," and "Future Cities," all under the Resiliency content theme—a discussion topic that's top of mind as the industry reflects on the advancements and shortfalls in the 10 years since Hurricane Katrina and the three since Hurricane Sandy. Other presentations and discussions will focus on "Designing for a Good Night's Sleep," "3-D Printing and Intellectual Design," "Design in the Digital Age: Branding and Social Media," "Fostering Innovation," "The Real Cost of Rip-offs," "The New Meaning of Hospitality," and "Smart vs. Safe Tech," with more than 15 opportunities for AIA and IDCEC CEU credits. Confirmed speakers for the conference include keynote speaker and Pulitzer Prize–winning author Paul Goldberger in conversation with architect and director of SCI-Arc Eric Owen Moss, designer Dror Benshetrit, Howard Elkus, FAIA, recipient of the 2014 AIA Young Architects Award Illya Azaroff, Claire Weisz, FAIA, Google Material Design NY creative lead Rob Giampietro, Lance Brown, FAIA, Alessi U.S. managing director Paolo Cravedi, architect Julie Torres Moskovitz, architect Chad Oppenheim, Homepolish founder and CEO Noa Santos, Thomas L. Woltz, FASLA, Canary founder and CTO Chris Rill, entrepreneur Brad Sewell, designer and restaurateur Taavo Somer, Move Loot co-founder and CMO Jenny Morrill, SVP and director of City Park Development at Trust for Public Land Adrian Benepe, and director of NEW INC at the New Museum Julia Kaganskiy.

Friday, October 2, the designated trade and press day, will include programming with AIA and IDCEC CEU opportunities for architects and designers from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The opening reception will take place from 5–6 p.m., followed by the keynote conversation at 6 p.m. led by Pulitzer Prize–winning author and Vanity Fair architecture critic Paul Goldberger in discussion with architect and SCI-Arc director Eric Owen Moss. The conversation will touch upon the architectural experimentation that defined 1970s and 1980s Los Angeles. Pioneered and influenced by Frank Gehry—the subject of Goldberger's newest book, BUILDING ART—that movement signaled the ascension of the West Coast architecture school of thought, which many viewed as defiantly oppositional to the East Coast academic establishment. On Saturday, October 3, the show opens to both consumers and the trade at 10 a.m., with programming that includes consumer-friendly CEU opportunities until 6 p.m. The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, with a panel on "The New Skyscraper" with designer Dror Benshetrit closing the onstage programming.

The always-popular Dwell Home Tour takes place on Saturday, October 3, and will allow attendees to explore the pages of the magazine via five stunning Manhattan residences. This year's homes showcase the best in modern design, from a Tribeca loft that's the perfect fit for a single dad, to a serene West Village sanctuary with thoughtful details throughout. Award-winning architects and designers on the tour include James Ramsey, Matthew Bremer, and Cezign. The Home Tour architects will provide a preview of the projects on the tour during "Meet the Architects," Thursday October 1 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at AIANY's 2015 Archtober Hall in the South Street Seaport. Tickets are available for purchase online and run from $15 for a student-discounted pass to $159 for a 3-day trade pass.

The conference will occur during AIANY's Archtober, of which Dwell is the presenting media sponsor for the fourth consecutive year. Celebrating its fifth year, Archtober is a month-long architecture and design festival that raises the awareness of the importance of design in New York City through "Building of the Day" tours, programs, and exhibitions during the month of October.

Partners: American Institute of Architects (AIA), Archtober, American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), NYC & Company, NYCxDESIGN
