The U. S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) will share the latest developments in its connected intelligent transportation system research at an exhibit alongside a training workshop and a panel session planned in in conjunction with the SAE 2015 World Congress, which will be held April 21-23 at Cobo Center in Detroit.

The USDOT exhibit will feature a live demonstration of the connected vehicle technology to showcase the 5.9GHz DSRC broadcast communications as well as the peer-to-peer data exchanges between vehicle components and the back-office situation data warehouse. At the training workshop on Monday April 20, USDOT staff will offer an in-depth overview of the unified implementation of the USDOT's Connected Vehicle Reference Implementation Architecture (CVRIA). The panel session with experts, scheduled for Thursday April 23, will provide information about the next generation of certification services in support of the Connected Vehicle Pilots and other near-term projects:
Monday, April 20
1:30 - 5:30 p.m. – Room 331ABC

Walton Fehr, Systems Engineering and Test Bed Manager, ITS Joint Program Office, U.S. Department of Transportation

This half-day session will provide an overview of the unified implementation of the USDOT ITS Joint Program Office (JPO) developed CVRIA. The architecture identifies the key interfaces of a connected intelligent transportation system. This session will also provide information on the JPO's Connected Vehicle Test Bed (known as the Southeast Michigan Test Bed) in Oakland Country, Michigan. The Southeast Michigan Test Bed is a federally-funded resource available to developers to test how connected vehicle technologies will perform under real-world operating conditions. In recent years, the test bed has undergone numerous enhancements, including geographical expansion and technical and architectural updates, designed to support the connected vehicle industry's evolving needs for a testing and development environment. Thursday, April 23
3 p.m. – Room 258

This session will introduce the approach and concepts for Certification Testing to help qualify critical capabilities of devices and application components for using in current deployment pilots. The testing capabilities are being developed in a cooperative agreement between USDOT, OCS, 7Layers, and Danlaw.
