Camcode to Attend UN's Fifth Biennial Meeting of States on Small Arms Tracking

Camcode Will Share Its Successful Experiences in Military Arms Tracking at the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) June 18, 2014

The Camcode Division of Horizons Incorporated, a global leader in asset tracking using automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) solutions, will attend the United Nation's Fifth Biennial Meeting of States, from June 16-20, 2014 in New York City. This event, in accordance with the UN's 2001 Programme of Action (PoA), will consider implementation of the PoA's mission to counter the "illicit trade and uncontrolled circulation of small arms and light weapons at the national, regional and global levels."

Camcode was invited to attend the meeting by members of the Surviving Gun Violence Project due to the company's experience in weapons and asset tracking with the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence (UK MoD).

As the UK MoD's Unique Identification (UID) Enabling Contract holder, Camcode has been charged with helping the UK MoD implement a strategy to identify, track and manage its military assets, including those returning from Afghanistan.

Through Camcode's experience working with the UK MoD, the company has developed proven methods and processes to track arms and generate accurate reports for weapons traceability and transparency in ownership. The UK MoD has seen significant benefits in weapons and asset tracking due in large part to Camcode's data management and asset identification processes. With an asset management team in-theatre in Afghanistan, Camcode helped the UK MoD locate £3.5 million (approximately $5.8 million) of dismounted close combat equipment that the UK MoD believed to be scrapped, lost or written off. Without proper tracking and identification, this equipment could have fallen into the wrong hands.

"Camcode believes in improving transparency in arms trade by means of weapons tracking," said Jon Keserich, Managing Director. "What began as a program to help organizations identify, track and control property has now evolved into a mission to help defense organizations and nation states prevent illicit trade of weapons used in civil wars, terrorism, organized crime, gang warfare and other conflicts."

During the meeting, Camcode plans to share its successful experiences and best practice knowledge in arms tracking with other nations and members of the UN, as well as commercial and industrial partners to help further the global arms tracking initiative.
