Eagle Village Invites Local Communities to Attend A “Planting of Pinwheels” to Commemorate National Child Abuse Prevention Month

(PRWEB) April 09, 2013

Michigan's future success relies on the healthy growth and development of all children. During April, National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Eagle Village encourages local communities to come together to celebrate efforts to ensure all children have the safe, stable, nurturing environments they need to thrive. Eagle Village will hold a Planting of Pinwheels at the Depot in Reed City on April 22 at 4:30pm and invites the community to share in a celebration of children. Young people who currently reside at Eagle Village will be bringing pinwheels they have decorated to plant along the sidewalk and yard of the Depot. Eagle Village also asks friends in the community to “plant” pinwheels in their front lawns to show support of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Citizens should learn more about the short and long term effects of child abuse and neglect on the child and on the community during April. “Child and youth development is the foundation for community and economic development,” said Ame Edstrom, Residential Program Manager. “When children experience abuse, their maturing brains are actually damaged. If left unaddressed this leads to poor outcomes for the child and the community. These effects include academic failure, chronic long-term health issues, and increased crime rates and violence.”

One of the most effective ways to prevent child abuse and neglect from occurring is to ensure all parents have the knowledge, skills, resources, and social support they need to provide safe, stable, nurturing environments for their children.

Eagle Village is a non-profit family treatment center providing Intervention Services and Camps, Residential Treatment, Foster Care and Adoption services for all counties in Michigan. If you know of a family in crisis that may benefit from these programs contact Eagle Village at 231-832-2234
