This vendor-neutral evaluation of eZ Systems' new eZ Publish 5.0 Platform exposes the strengths and weaknesses of a leading open source WCM solution.
(PRWEB) January 07, 2013
Having evaluated every version of the product since 2008, Ars Logica today announces the publication of its Compass Guide to Web Content Management on eZ Systems' eZ Publish 5 Platform. The new report goes into depth on both the strengths of eZ Publish 5.0 as a foundation for customer experience management (CXM) initiatives and the lingering weaknesses of eZ Systems as a company. In the report, Ars Logica's founder, Tony White, states:
“eZ Publish 5.0 is a first-rate enterprise WCM platform which – in combination with other eZ Systems offerings – can serve as a solid foundation for CXM initiatives. The product has evolved significantly in the past year, the biggest improvements coming in usability (new UI), flexibility (new API), and a newly-available marketing automation extension. Although open source, eZ Publish stands on a level with the best of the commercial WCM offerings. The platform's main weakness is eZ Systems' inadequate product marketing, which accounts for much of the market's relative unawareness of the product or its quality.”
“Interestingly,” White adds, “we are at a point in the market's evolution where some open source products are on or near functional par with the likes of Adobe CQ5 and SDL Tridion. This will be especially interesting to some prospective buyers, as most or all of the bias against open source software has disappeared. For the right buyer, open source content-management platforms can represent extraordinary value. But for the wrong buyer – including those looking only to save money at purchase time – open source CMS applications will likely require too much technical expertise both at implementation and on an ongoing basis.”
All of the Compass Guides to WCM incorporate the results of Ars Logica's hands-on product testing. While most vendor-neutral analyst firms base their evaluations on direct vendor input and a few reference calls, Ars Logica actually uses the products it evaluates, and the firm invites communication from anyone interested in learning more about the real differences between the wide array of WCM products on the market. A few of the other CMS vendors we evaluate include Adobe, Oracle, OpenText, SDL, Sitecore, Ektron, Kentico, Jahia, Hippo, Magnolia, and GX Software.
