What is more fun than playing in mud, while romping like a cowboy on a real Florida cattle ranch? That's the unique attraction of the Cowboy Crawl Mud Run, according to the organizers, the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce. The Cowboy Crawl, scheduled for Saturday, March 23, in Lake Panasoffkee, Florida, will herd a stampede of runners through a challenging 5-kilometer run with cowboy-themed obstacles, surrounded by the natural beauty of a private, unspoiled ranch teeming with real wildlife.
Providence Ranch, 5682 W. State Road 44 (between the towns of Wildwood and Inverness) in Lake Panasoffkee is an actual cattle ranch with livestock, ponds, giant oak trees with Spanish moss, and plenty of mud. The event is presented by the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce.
Cowboy Crawl runners will get down and dirty while overcoming tough obstacles like:
- Crawling through mud under barbed wire.
- Jumping over fire in the branding pit.
- Zigging and zagging through cattle chutes.
- Climbing walls and hay mounds, and slithering through tunnels.
- Slogging through mud pits, watering troughs and ponds.
- Getting "lasso"ed in the rope maze.
- Crossing a rope bridge over “Alligator Alley.”
- Jumping fences, and watching out for cow patties.
Participants can run for glory, or just for fun. The fastest man and woman to complete the course will each win a rodeo-style championship belt buckle. All participants will receive an event t-shirt and a custom-designed medal. All participants are invited to wash off after their run and stay for live music, great barbecue, cold beer and soft drinks, fun activities like mud volleyball and tugs-of-war. There's an observation area where friends and family can cheer on the runners, and stay for the post-run fun.
Early registration for the Cowboy Crawl is $45 per person through January 31, 2013. Teams of six or more members receive a $5 discount on each registration. The fittest and fastest runners can register for a competitive wave at 8:00am.
