Passion for Back Road Cycling, World-Class Wines, and Eco-Friendly Architectural Design Inspires Tour Operators to Create Unique Travel Experience in New Zealand's South Island.
Nelson, New Zealand (PRWEB) January 06, 2013
VeloVino Tours (http://www.velovino.co.nz) has launched a new touring company which offers custom cycling tours, winery tours and luxury, eco-friendly accommodations in the “Top of the South” region of Nelson, New Zealand.
Tour operators and Nelson residents, Glenn and Juliane Cormier, have taken their passions for cycling, wine and architecture to create a unique touring company that showcases the best of the Nelson/Tasman region, located on the northern tip of New Zealand's southern island.
“I've been cycling for over 30 years and have toured across the U.S., Europe and other territories around the world, and the Nelson region of New Zealand is one of my favorite,” states Glenn Cormier, co-owner and operator of VeloVino Tours. “River valleys, mountains, and coastlines all converge within a relatively small area of natural beauty, and the vineyards that dot the landscape make this a truly unique spot in the world for cyclists of all levels to enjoy.”
VeloVino Tours offers customized, guided or self-guided routes that range from 20-100 K throughout the area. Tours packages include the use of high-performance road bikes (avid cyclist are encouraged to bring their own shoes and pedals), helmets, snacks, and water bottles. For self-guided tours, a map and mobile phone are also provided and riders will be picked up at a pre-arranged finish point. A minimum 2-hour guided tour is $85 per person (all prices stated are New Zealand dollars). Each additional hour is $25 per person.
“Since moving to Nelson from Southern California in 2009, Juliane and I have been exploring the region and enjoy sharing our discoveries with other adventurers,” explains Glenn. “Our menu of routes along quiet pastoral roads helps ensure a pace that allows for savoring the invigorating experience.”
For the wine enthusiasts, VeloVino offers guests a luxurious ride to the area's environmentally-conscious wineries in the comfort of a Mercedes van. Drawing on years of experience in the wine industry, Juliane Cormier has sought out the finest, small, sustainable/organic wineries in the region, where guests will taste aromatic whites and luscious reds.
“I started my love affair with wine while living in the heart of Burgundy, France,” states Juliane Cormier, co-owner and operator of VeloVino Tours. “It's always been my desire to recreate that connection with a wine growing region as Glenn and I have done here in Nelson.”
VeloVino Tours offers a Half-Day Nelson wine tour, which includes all tasting fees and transportation. Tour times are from 10:30 am – 3:00 pm, or 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Price is $129 per person. A Full-Day Nelson wine tour is also offered, which includes all tasting fees and transportation. Pick up time is 10:00 am. Price is $179 per person. Tours cater to a maximum of 6 people, and a surcharge of $80/group guarantees an exclusive tour. In addition, a full-day “Marlborough Experience” tour is available upon prior arrangement.
“The Nelson/Tasman region is an emerging gem of wine production for New Zealand, and produces world-class wines that hold up to the best in the world,” states Juliane. “From complex and full-bodied aromatic whites, to the region's famed Pinot Noirs, even the most discerning wine aficionados will appreciate what this wine region has to offer,” Julian concludes.
To enhance the Nelson cycle or wine experience, VeloVino Tours offers luxurious accommodations for guests who book a 1 ½ day tour or longer. Guests will stay in the private and separate guest wing of owner's new, eco-friendly modern residence. There are 2 guest rooms available, and each offer private ensuite bathrooms, high-thread count linens, sea views, and a large private deck for relaxing and enjoying the vistas of Tasman Bay and the mountains beyond.
“As a commercial photographer, I've been inspired by the many beautiful homes and resorts I've photographed over the years,” said Glenn. “When we designed this house, it was important to have a critical eye for design and comfort, but equally important for us to build in the most eco-friendly and responsible way we could.”
“The house sits on a hill with fantastic views of Tasman Bay, and only a 25 minute walk or a 6 minute bike ride to the town of Nelson,” adds Juliane. “It's such a naturally beautiful setting that we were inspired to incorporate as many ‘green' aspects to the construction of the home as possible.”
The house features active and passive solar systems, water reclamation, non-toxic low carbon footprint building materials, low energy usage appliances, and an all LED lighting system. The house is a recent recipient of 8 Master Builder Awards, including top Sustainable Home in the region.
