Sunday's NFL Match up: RG III, Wilson Follow Ashe's Lead

NFL QB's Wilson and RGIII are winner and runner up respectively of the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar of the Year Award presented by Diverse: Issues In Higher Education magazine.

What many don't know is that the academic record of rookie NFL QB's Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks and Robert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins is just as remarkable as their on field performances this year.

In 2011 they finished as Winner and runner-up, respectively, as Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar of the Year as selected by Diverse: Issues In Higher Education magazine.

Wilson graduated from North Carolina State University a year early in 2010 and went on to graduate school with a cumulative GPA of 4.0 in business. Griffin, III graduated early from Baylor University with a 3.67 cumulative GPA in political science.

The Ashe award, which began in 1992, was inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe Jr.'s commitment to education and love for his sport. Every college and university in the country is invited to nominate their outstanding sports scholars to receive this award. In addition to athletic ability each Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar must exhibit academic excellence and community activism. Last year the award was presented in conjunction with the NCAA's Office of Inclusion.
