BobCAD-CAM's 4 Axis Standard Offers Indexing, Wrapping, and Rotary Capabilities

CNC machining software offers new options for easier and more complete 4 Axis machining.

(PRWEB) January 04, 2013

The new 4 Axis Standard uses an index system that allows the user to index a part using the 4th axis. Once the part is indexed to a defined value, the user will have the option for 2D or 3D tool paths. For example: if the user wanted to engrave 4 sides of a box, he would be able to create an index system for each face with the option to engrave on them.

Inside the BobCAD 4 Axis Standard software, the user can load an index system by right clicking on the machine setup and choosing add index. Once there is an index system in the CAM tree, the user will need to locate the face or side of the part he wants to machine on. Define the face or side of the part the 4 axis will index to by right clicking on the index system and choosing re/select. The user can pick a surface on the part or pick a User Coordinate System (UCS).

The BobCAD website offers a quick step-by-step lesson setting up an index system.

Using a wrapping group requires the user to lay his work out flat, and the tool paths will be wrapped to a defined cylinder. If the user is working with a solid part to begin with, BobCAD software offers an unwrapping CAD feature that will automatically unwrap the 3D geometry and lay it out flat. The user can setup multiple wrapping groups for different diameter cylinders he may be working with. Wrapping does just that - it takes 2D or 3D tool paths and wraps them around a cylinder.

Using a rotary tool path inside of BobCAD 4 Axis Standard allows the user to program a 3D solid directly for the 4th axis. There is no need to lay the work out flat - just load a solid and program it.
