San Antonio support group creates unique online community to help women throughout their breast cancer and reconstruction journey.
San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) January 02, 2013
Once a month breast cancer survivors from across the country tune in to the PRMA Pink Ladies support group live broadcast as they share stories, welcome guest speakers and offer their friendship and advice.
The Pink Ladies, based out of PRMA's Center for Advanced Breast Reconstruction in San Antonio, got its start in 2010 with only a handful of members. It now has almost outgrown its meeting location and includes online members from states across the country.
PRMA Patient Janice DeLeon says that since she first started attending the Pink Ladies meetings she has developed friendships that she will have for the rest of her life. “Being a part of this group, I have spoken to women all over the country. I have been able to comfort them, listen to their fears and give them hope that they would come out of this experience and be okay,” DeLeon said.
PRMA's patient liaison and marketing representative, Brandy Korman, who organizes and runs the Pink Ladies says that the ladies who attend the meetings, whether it's online or in person, are often at different stages of their journey so everyone can benefit and learn from hearing their experiences.
“A lot of the women, especially those who attend our online broadcast, do not have local support groups so it is a great way for them to connect to others going through similar situations and know that they are not alone in this,” says Korman.
The group meets monthly and covers topic from lymphedema and exercise to stress management and sexual problems that often accompany breast cancer treatment.
“What the PRMA staff provides us with through these meetings is priceless,” says DeLeon. “They are an incredible group of professionals and I feel so blessed to be a part of the Pink Ladies.”
More information can be found on their website or on the group's Facebook page.
