Michael and Elizabeth Singer have been married for almost 20 years. Instead of making their own list of resolutions, they make resolutions for each other. It all started two years ago and NPR's The Takeaway has been keeping track.

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 02, 2013

Blame it on stop and go traffic on I-95.

"We were sick of the radio, the snacks had been eaten, my daughter was plugged into her Ipod," recalls Liz Singer.

"Mike and I got to talking about what we wanted to do in the New Year. I told him to get out of the house. He's too young to be retired. Start a new business."

"And I told her to be bolder in her psychotherapy practice, to try things that were outside of her comfort zone," said Mike.

Fast forward to December 2011 and Michael has started a tuturing business and Liz has published a new website with a blog for her psychotherapy practice. Then the Wall Street Journal (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204552304577114722549353752.html) came calling and made this resolution "outsourcing" hideously public. NPR's The Takeaway (http://www.thetakeaway.org/2012/dec/31/new-years-resolutions-each-other/) got onboard to follow Mike's and Liz's progress as they encourage and push each other to stay fit and spend their time the way they want to spend their lives. Last year, Mike told Liz to write her book. Liz told Mike to get back to the dojo and get in shape. Did this work at all?

Yes and no.

Scoreboard: Mike started a tutoring company and was helping the son of a former colleague with high school math. The tutoring session over, his colleague said that he just bought a company and he needed help to run it. Was Michael interested? Yes he was. Mike did not go back to the dojo, but he does lift weights almost every day.

Scoreboard: Liz wrote 20 blog pieces for her website which may morph into a book. She still hesitates before pressing "publish."

So if you haven't made your New Year's resolutions yet, not to worry. Just ask someone who knows you well to do it for you.
