Tens of Thousands to Gather in Washington, D.C. for UNITE America in Service Event on Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend


On Saturday, January 19, 2013, the day President Barack Obama has designated as a National Day of Service, more than 250,000 people will participate in service events across our nation, thanks to Points of Light, Target, and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Here in Washington, and in conjunction with ServeDC, HandsOn Greater DC Cares, Volunteer Fairfax, Community Blueprint, the George Washington University and Operation Gratitude, Points of Light, Target, and the Corporation for National and Community Service will convene the largest single-site service project of Inaugural/MLK weekend, endorsed by the Presidential Inaugural Committee, in our nation's capital:



UNITE America in Service event

As an official Presidential Inaugural Committee event, up to 10,000 volunteers will gather to assemble 100,000 care kits filled with necessities for deployed U.S. service members, Wounded Warriors, veterans and first responders. Volunteers ages 12 to 17 years are welcome with parents or legal guardians. Large groups are also welcome to join.
