$120,000 per year advertising grant made to transform marketing effort of civic startup in Maryland that aims to help voters connect with elected officials in between elections.

College Park, MD (PRWEB) December 31, 2012

Google recently awarded MyMaryland.net a Google Grant, an in-kind donation of advertising worth $10,000 per month. MyMaryland.net joins a select group of non-profits recognized by Google as having a compelling and valuable public service.

MyMaryland.net is revolutionizing the democratic process by creating a 24/7 online town hall for voters and politicians to connect, learn, and discuss the issues that matter most. The impetus for its creation was the low levels of civic participation in between elections.

Led by 23-year-old serial social entrepreneur Ben Simon, MyMaryland.net is nearing completion of the beta version of their political social media tool. Their grand opening is anticipated for January 2013.

“This Google Grant will help us show more Marylanders the political power they can gain by using MyMaryland.net to express their opinions and connect with their elected representatives,” said Simon. “It's really a great honor to be recognized by Google with this donation.”

MyMaryland.net has also received support from the Sunlight Foundation, which has a similar civic mission of increasing civic engagement and transparency in government. Additionally, MyMaryland is in the inaugural cohort of the Civic Accelerator, sponsored by Points of Light and Village Capital.

MyMaryland.net is a project of MyAmerica, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit devoted to developing new tools that increase civic participation and strengthen government transparency and responsiveness. The MyAmerica team has its roots in Maryland and choose it for the first stage of its revolutionary tool.

In the next two years MyAmerica will be extending its statewide platform to all 50 states to allow citizens creating participation and action at all levels of American government.
