Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid Plug-In Readied for Release

Mitsubishi Motors is aiming for a late January launch of its Outlander plug-in hybrid, a four-wheel-drive SUV. With no competition in the segment from other hybrids, Mitsubishi spokespersons refer to the new model as a game-changer of sorts, since it is the only crossover that offers the convenience of an EV and the range of a traditional combustion model. A 12-kWh lithium battery unit teams up with a pair of 60-kW electric motors and a 2.0-liter engine to deliver 117 horsepower. For the complete story, see:

New ChargePoint App Shows All EV Stations in North America

ChargePoint has introduced a mobile app which allows drivers to locate EV charging stations located anywhere in the U.S., whether the stations are affiliated with the ChargePoint network or not. The app lets users see which of the stations have pricing, and shows exactly how far away each charging location is. The free app lets EV owners check in with their Twitter and Facebook accounts as well. Pat Romano, ChargePoint's CEO and president, noted that the company is the world's largest entity of its kind. He said the new app gives EV drivers exactly what they want, namely the ability find electric service points and navigate to them any time of the day or night. For drivers in North America, there are well over 10,000 charging stations available, and the latest ChargePoint app has them all in its database. For the complete story, see:

Lexus to Reveal Plans for Self-Driving Cars

Ahead of January's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Lexus will reveal its autonomous car plans to media during a press conference on Jan. 7. In addition to its driverless cars, company executives will explain the company's newest high-tech engineering systems that help drivers operate vehicles. Collision-avoidance, navigation, and various warning devices are among the new wave of technology. Many expect Lexus to use its popular LS model as the experimental car for the demonstration in Las Vegas. For the complete story, see:
