Costume designer Marlene Stewart, known for her work on films such as Date Night, Tropic Thunder, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, and Ali, among others, has created the costumes for the new Tom Cruise film, Oblivion. The upcoming science fiction thriller is based on a graphic novel by Radical Publishing and will be released in April of 2013. Cruise plays Jack Harper, one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth, who must battle to save mankind.

While living in Los Angeles, Stewart had her own clothing label called Covers. There she met a young Madonna who hired the FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising fashion design graduate to create clothing for the music videos “Vogue,” “Material Girl, “Like a Prayer,” and “Express Yourself.” From there she went on to design costumes for Cher, Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Rod Stewart.

Once Stewart entered the realm of film and TV, she became one of Hollywood's most in-demand Costume Designers. Her credits include JFK, The Doors, The X Files, Hitch, and Stop-Loss. The Boston native was recently honored for her career achievement in film at the Costume Designers Guild Awards. Stewart regularly visits her alma mater to support museum exhibitions and has a fellow alumna, Michelle D'Antonio, working in her Oblivion department as the film's assistant costume PA.
