Coachella, CA (PRWEB) November 07, 2012

In the 2012 election vote, Measure X asked residents to approve a $41 million bond measure to make a major upgrade to technology in schools and the community. The district seeks to purchase 18,000 iPad 3s for all students, preschool through high school, as well as fund 750 MacBook Pro laptops for every teacher. And, perhaps most important, it will provide $7 million to upgrade the district's technology infrastructure and improve connectivity in the rural district that covers 1220 square miles. Currently the Coachella Valley Unified School District has initiated a 5,600 iPad pilot program, which has earned it the 32nd place internationally among Forbes Magazine list of 100 largest iPad rollouts.

Requiring 55% approval, Measure X passed with 62% of the vote. “This community remains convinced that we can and will improve our educational outcomes so more of our students go on to become successful in college and career and productive citizenship. Our goal is for this community to take its place as a respected member in the Coachella Valley and for its students to become respected and respectful members of our diverse global society. With the passage of this ballot initiative each and every student has a ticket on The Road To Educational Excellence for an improved and properous future“ stated Superintendent Dr. Darryl Adams.

Measure X enjoyed widespread community support ranging from the local press, businesses, faith based leadership, local elected officials, to State Superintendent of Schools Tom Torlakson.

Measure X is part of the CVUSD mobile learning initiative developed by the District, recognizing that their students live in a very different world, requiring additional skills than their parents and grandparents. “Education is going through a transformation right now and we will be at the forefront and not the backburner of that transformation,” Superintendent Adams said. “People who see it and understand it are moving in this direction, we are just moving smarter and faster because our community needs it and we need it now.”

“Our Board of Education is committed to transforming our educational system as we know it today. We will lead the way in adopting the Common Core State Standards, the Smarter Balanced Assessments and we will utilize Challenge Based Learning and combine Technology, Content and Pedagogy that helps us construct the new Road to Educational Excellence which will prepare our students for College, Career and Citizenship,” said Dr. Adams.
