SmartDebit comment on increase in summer online spending
SmartDebit, the UK's leading Direct Debit collections service, have responded to the increased eCommerce spending figures the UK enjoyed in July.
(PRWEB UK) 5 November 2012
More than 6.5 billion was spent online during the month of July this year, an increase of 17% from the same month in 2011. IMRG Capgemini's e-Retail Sales Index reported that July saw the strongest index performance year-to-date in terms of annual growth, with sales peaking during the second week of the month. Warm weather, summer sales and the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics were all thought to be key factors for the increase in online spending.
The figures highlight how important the online market is to businesses and the focus should be on optimising their websites in line with the shift in consumer behaviour. SmartDebit provides businesses, charities and clubs with the ability to sign up new customers to pay by Direct Debit through their website via their Application Programming Interface (API) or iFrame.
A spokesperson from SmartDebit commented on the importance of online Direct Debits “Organisations who do not offer online sign-up facilities run the risk of falling behind their competitors as the number of people paying for goods and services over the internet continues to increase. Outsourcing online Direct Debit processing to SmartDebit is simpler, faster and cost-effective. Developing an in-house system can be disadvantageous in terms of development costs, on-going maintenance, IT support and time as well as needing to fully understand the Direct Debit Scheme Rules and Regulations.”
