"The Vampyre" is a short story written in 1819 by John Polidori and is a progenitor of the romantic vampire genre of fiction.

John Polidori was an English writer and physician. He is known for his associations with Lord Byron and the Romantic movement, being credited by some as the creator of the vampire genre of fantasy fiction. His most successful story was The Vampyre. Originally and erroneously accredited to Lord Byron, both Byron and Polidori affirmed that the story is Polidori's.

This is the first volume in the new digital ebook series "Decca Newbury Classics". All volumes are edited by emerging authors and writers. This edition was edited by Chadwick Hagan. Foreward by Josh P. Boyd.
