How recruiters run their desks varies from firm to firm. Sometimes, it seems as though no two recruiters do things exactly the same way, and that certainly includes the topic of guarantees.

Some recruiters offer guarantees on the candidates they place with their clients, while others do not. And for the recruiters who do offer guarantees, the lengths of those guarantees can differ, depending upon the preferences of the firm owner involved and other factors.

According to a recent poll conducted by Top Echelon Network, an elite network of highly specialized search firms, over 60% of recruiters stated that the length of their guarantee is contingent upon how quickly the client pays their invoice.

As part of that poll, Top Echelon Network asked the following question: “If you offer a guarantee, is the length of that guarantee contingent upon how quickly the client pays your invoice?”

The majority of poll participants (63.6%) indicated “Yes,” while 35.1% chose “No” as their answer. The remaining 1.3% selected “I don't offer a guarantee” as their response.

According to Top Echelon Network President Mark Demaree, while most recruiters are not opposed to offering a guarantee to companies for the candidates they place, those recruiters also make that guarantee contingent upon certain conditions.

“Top Echelon Network recruiters, first and foremost, have confidence in the candidates they place,” said Demaree. “That's the reason many of them offer guarantees. However, it's common for them to tie that guarantee to payment terms that ensure they're compensated in a timely fashion.

“The more quickly a company pays a recruiter's invoice, the longer the length of the guarantee period. In this fashion, a compromise is struck and both parties receive something they want.”

Top Echelon Network was founded in 1988 in Canton, Ohio.
