Las Vegas (PRWEB) November 01, 2012

Northwest Career College, Las Vegas' leading provider of educational services to individuals interested in careers in the medical field, has now expanded its course offerings to include a Paralegal Associates Degree Program. The program, which consists 1,400 total contact hours, and can be completed in 18 months, prepares students to meet the rapidly expanding demand for legal professionals in the Las Vegas area.

“We identified a need among Las Vegas-area law firms for paralegal professionals. Even though our focus has been on providing healthcare organizations with competent workers, we decided it was time to expand and meet an unmet market need,” said Campus Director Dr. John Kenny.

The Paralegal Studies program offers a comprehensive selection of legal specialty courses, with courses in areas such as Criminal Law, Civil Litigation, Family Law, and Legal Research and Writing. The emphasis in these legal courses is on the practical skills paralegals need to be successful in this field. Students also complete general education courses which hone their critical thinking skills, and broaden their view of the world around them. As part of the general education curriculum, students explore topics in areas such as Psychology, Environmental Science, and our American legal system. Finally, students complete a 240 hour externship, which allows them to gain valuable on-the-job experience as they work closely with a licensed attorney.

Many experienced attorneys attribute their success to their paralegals. Northwest Career College recognizes well-trained and hard-working paralegals are an essential part of an effective legal team. The school's mission is to prepare students to become valuable members of such a team.

Courses are taught in a “hybrid” format, which allows students the opportunity to participate in mock trials, debates, and class discussions in a traditional classroom setting, while at the same time improving and perfecting their computer skills by completing portions of their work in an online or “distance education” format.
