Nishanga Bliss has penned and published a guidebook on healthy eating habits and seasonal eating which stems from her years studying of Chinese medicine and the affects of food on the human body.

Graduate of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nishanga Bliss has recently published a guidebook with an innovative approach “Real Food All Year: Eating Seasonal Whole Foods for Optimal Health and All-Day Energy”. Bliss outlines which kinds of foods are most beneficial to the human body during certain times of year as well as the best ways to prepare them.

In addition to focusing on the importance of eating what is in season and only whole foods (rather than processed) Bliss also combines this ethos with the principles of Chinese medicine
“All cuisines use flavor in specific ways,” says Bliss, “but in Chinese medicine it's articulated what the effect is. They talk about it and it's implicit in every culinary tradition.”

Her book, in part, was written to help translate the ideas of Chinese medicine which can seem obscure and inaccessible to the layperson and make them easy to understand and implement into everyday life.

In addition to a comparison and analysis of Eastern and Western medicine, the book provides recipes to implement the information being taught into the reader's diet. It also teaches you how to refresh your body with simple, energy-building cleanses, and prepare delicious meals using over 35 gluten-free recipes.

Dr. Bliss, a professor of Chinese medicine at the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College (AIMC) in downtown Berkeley, also recently held a discussion on sustainability and a cooking demonstration at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) in San Francisco, CA.
