COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Nov. 2, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Window World, Inc.®, America's largest replacement window and home remodeling company, will be welcoming Phil Threshie, former Indianapolis 500 starter, to Colorado Springs as he signs 'The Stinger,' a traveling concept show car that was created to raise money for causes such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®. The signing will take place at 12 noon on Tuesday, November 6 at the Window World of Southern Colorado located at 750 Garden of the Gods Road #110 in Colorado Springs.

The Stinger is a 2011 concept Indy show car and tribute to the first winning Indianapolis 500 car, the 1911 Marmon Wasp. It was developed by John Andretti, Andretti Autosport and Window World and was unveiled at the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 in May 2011. The vehicle currently showcases the signatures of more than 210 former Indy 500 starters. For each signature received, Window World makes a donation to Window World Cares™, the charitable foundation of Window World, to help support causes such as St. Jude.

Threshie appeared in the Indy 500 in 1978 and 1979 where he finished in 30th and 17th place, respectively. He also participated in the event in 1980 and 1981. Over the course of his 5-season career, Threshie saw 15 career starts.

"The Stinger is such an important piece of Window World history," said Chris Lehmkuhl, owner of Window World of Southern Colorado. "We're excited to be able to bring it to our community and welcome Phil while adds his signature to the car."

Threshie will be signing the Stinger as a part of the vehicle's 'Fall into Winter Tour.' During the tour, the Stinger will be stopping in seven cities around the United States to obtain the signatures of eleven former Indy 500 starters. The tour's last stop is the International Motorsports Industry Show in Indianapolis starting December 6.

The main goal of the Stinger is to raise funds for Window World Cares. Since its inception in 2008, Window World Cares has donated more than $2.5 million to St. Jude and was named New Corporate Partner of the Year in 2010. In addition to St. Jude, Window World Cares also supports the Veterans Airlift Command (VAC), which provides free transportation to injured soldiers, veterans and their immediate families.
