Germany Telecom Intelligence Report: German Telecom Market to Generate 42bn ($54.8bn) In Service Revenue In 2012

Research and Markets ( has announced the addition of the "Germany Telecom Intelligence Report: Cable and LTE Stimulate Mobile Data Growth" report to their offering.

The expansion of high-speed broadband deployment and growth in smartphone uptake in Germany offers operators an opportunity to consider expanding their service portfolio to IT solutions, according to this new report.

Currently three mobile operators offer commercial LTE services, focusing their investment on expanding the coverage across the country, says Pyramid Research Analyst, Olena Kaplan. In 2011, LTE uptake lagged due to the regulatory obligation of LTE coverage in so-called white spot areas, and a lack of tablet and smartphone devices. As of now, operators do not plan to add a prepaid option for LTE, and this is expected to inhibit LTE growth in the short term. However, with operators expanding their LTE-enabled device portfolio, and services reaching urban areas, Pyramid expects LTE adoption to accelerate next year to reach 3 percent of all SIMs (3.6 million), rising further to 19 percent (26.5 million) by 2017, she notes.

The German telecom market will generate 42bn ($54.8bn) in service revenue in 2012, demonstrating -0.1% y-o-y decline in local currency terms, but the contraction in US dollar terms is much more pronounced (-6.3%). Looking forward, we expect the market to grow at a CAGR of 1.9% in euro terms or a (1.2% in USD terms) over the next five years, reaching 46.2bn ($58.1bn) by 2017. The mobile market, although already mature and highly competitive, still offers growth opportunities on the data side, with mobile data revenue increasing from 8.5bn ($11.1bn) to 13.0bn ($16.3bn) between 2012 and 2017, and generating a cumulative revenue opportunity of 64.3bn ($81.5bn) during that time. The growing proliferation of connectivity devices (including smartphones and tablets) and faster access networks are the main drivers for this growth. Pay-TV offers an attractive revenue opportunity in the forecast period, and we project IPTV and DTH/satellite to show continuous growth over the forecast period, both in subscriber and revenue terms.
