Dr. Randy Robinson Discusses Advantages of a Short-Flap Facelift, Mini Facelift and Full Facelift in Two-Part Series

The facelift, technically known as a rhytidectomy, literally means to cut away wrinkles. This procedure restores youthful contours of the face, which have become obscured by the effects of gravity and aging. For more information on facelifts, please visit or call 303-792-2828.

Dr. Randy Robinson has performed an extensive number of facelifts over the past 20 years and believes that patients must understand the differences and the advantages of the primary types of facelifts including the short-flap, the mini and the full facelift. All of these procedures eliminate or reduce wrinkles and jowls caused by aging, and in the case of a full facelift, correct more pronounced and developed wrinkles, redundant fat and skin, and drooping muscles of the face.

PART ONE: Advantages of the short-flap facelift and mini facelift:

Gravity and natural aging produce wrinkles, jowling and contour deformities to the skin of many faces in both women and men. The short-flap and mini facelifts are procedures to correct these conditions and work best in younger patients who require less skin advancement.

The short-flap and mini facelift surgeries are characterized by shorter incision lengths, minimal skin undermining and limited skin excision, as compared to the full facelift. The mini facelift requires a longer incision than the short-flap facelift to allow more fat contouring, depending on the patient's aesthetic need. Expected time in surgery is 1-1/2 to 2 hours.

As less invasive procedures, the advantages of the short-flap and mini facelifts are that they are less costly, have reduced surgical time, potentially avoid general anesthesia, have shorter recovery time, have lower risk of muscle and nerve damage and in most cases, result in less bruising.

Look for Part Two of this series which covers the advantages of the full facelift.
