TASC Delivers System Engineering and Mission Assurance Support for Historic E-LRALT Test

Missile Defense Agency leads most complex missile defense test ever attempted

Kirtland Air Force Base, NM (PRWEB) October 31, 2012

TASC provided highly specialized system engineering and mission assurance support for the successful October 24 launch of a target for the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) Operation Pacific Chimera. The new three-stage Extended-Long Range Air Launched Target (E-LRALT) was the largest target in the exercise, which took place over the Pacific Ocean.

“This mission was the largest, most complex missile defense test ever attempted,” says John Brennan, vice president of TASC's Air Force business unit. “We are extremely proud to have contributed to its success, and congratulate our many DOD and industry partners involved in the operation.”

The TASC team provided system engineering and mission assurance oversight for target development, integration and air launch operations, applying design, test and integration expertise throughout the process. TASC software and controls engineers provided independent verification and validation of flight software and guidance, navigation and controls performance. In addition, TASC coordinated and oversaw the refurbishment of two Minuteman II motors and the qualifications of an ATK Orbus 1A motor for the motor's maiden flight.
