"I have smoked for nearly 20 years and never went a day without smoking at least a full pack of smokes. Ever since I got my electronic cigarettes (3 weeks ago), I never had another regular cigarette since... I feel better, breathe better, sleep better and that's just to name a few. These are choices we made, please don't take these life changing choices from us!”
This was but one of the many testimonials gathered by Professor Michael Siegel, of the Boston University School of Public Health, in support of e cigarettes. The product has been a hot topic ever since it came out in the market several years ago.
Much of the debate has had to do a lot with questions on its efficiency and safety. For people who are using it themselves, however, the debate had long been over. Their conclusion is unanimous: there is no product currently out there in the market that can deliver the promise of smoke-cessation like e cigs.
Several studies have been conducted, and their findings also support these testimonials from the electric cigarette advocates. One such study was conducted in Athens, Greece, at the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center. The study, headed by Dr. Konstatinos Farsalinos, found that contrary to what other sectors have been claiming, there are no harmful effects on the heart when it comes to the use of the smokeless cigarettes. In fact, by and large, it even points to a whole lot of health benefit, simply based on the fact that this product does not carry the harmful toxins and free radicals enclosed in a stick of tobacco cigarettes.
What's even better about this is that even the vapor emitted by the device, which earned it its other moniker of being “vapor cigarettes”, do not yield any threat or risk to passive inhalers or bystanders. This was supported by a study conducted by CHANGE, LLC at the Center for Air Resources Engineering and Science at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY.
Said Professor Siegel, “This study demonstrates that the risks of second-hand vapor from electronic cigarette use are very small in comparison to those associated with second-hand tobacco smoke. While second-hand smoke must be eliminated in workplaces and public places, the current data provide no justification for eliminating electronic cigarette use in these places.”
With all these data vouching for the electric cigarettes, therefore, it is no wonder that more and more people are looking forward to quitting tobacco smoking for good.
