GoodSemester, Revolutionary Learning Platform, Rebrands as Squareknot and Receives Angel Investment
Seven months into public beta, company focuses squarely toward global learning.

GoodSemester, the revolutionary, new online platform for learning that has been called a “complete rethink of the [education] application category”, is rebranding today as Squareknot. The company is also announcing its first investment today from local Lehigh Valley angel Todd Welch.
“GoodSemester's public beta was a testing bed for the idea that the world could give knowledge back to itself. We focused our beta in academia, but as we watched the different courses our beta testers made, it became obvious that there was much, much more to learning than university life,” Jason Rappaport, founder and CEO of the company, said of the name change. “Squareknot gives us the opportunity to show people that there is learning to be had beyond college.”
The square knot is a remarkably simple knot, used to tie shoelaces, and represents two simple things coming together to produce a connection so strong that it binds itself.
The Squareknot team spent seven months analyzing and measuring how the platform was used. They rebuilt the service from the ground up around global education and the discovery of new and interesting things to learn, while broadening the audience beyond the higher education space to anyone of any age with an interest in learning something new. The Squareknot team has closed the public beta and is expecting a final release soon.
“We can't wait to let Squareknot out the door,” Jason Rappaport said.
