Lynn Barnes brings attention to Asperger's syndrome through her life story

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) October 31, 2012

In her new autobiography “The Last Exit Before The Toll: Art, Death, Asperger's, and Dreams” (published by iUniverse), Lynn Barnes shares her life story, balancing her identity as an artist with her struggles as a person with Asperger's syndrome.

Barnes discovered she had Asperger's syndrome in 2007. “I had no idea it existed,” she says. “I found out about it from a friend at work.”

This revealing autobiography shares some of the difficulties Barnes has encountered due to her condition, but that is far from the focus of the book. Her passion as a painter and what her art has meant to her over the years take center stage in this intensely illuminating glimpse into her life.

“I want people to see though an artist's life with undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome,” says Barnes. “I hope they can feel what I felt to face the initial tragedies, the sadness, the confusion of what it would be like to be in such an unusual position.”

Barnes describes herself as a somewhat solitary person living in an artistic area of Baltimore. She says she has always struggled with emotions and making big life decisions, but her life has also been marred with tragedy. She lost both of her parents – her mother to lung cancer and her father to a heart attack – as well as her best friend to suicide.

“I hope (‘The Last Exit Before The Toll') can create more awareness about Asperger's,” says Barnes. “I hope working through my problems help others, give a little hope, and overcome the negativity that swarms around some of the issues.”
