Atomicdust's design work for the St. Louis Children's Hospital's annual report pairs the comforting familiarity of children's arts and crafts projects with sophisticated photography and design.

“Our concept for the annual report revolved around the idea of ‘more,'” said Mike Spakowski, creative director for Atomicdust. “It's a reflection of the hospital's commitment to more lifesaving cures and treatments, more moments with loved ones, and more exceptional patient care.”
Inspired by the hospital's decor, the report pairs the comforting familiarity of children's arts and crafts projects with sophisticated photography and design. Atomicdust built and photographed each scene themselves, building a cage in their office from which to suspend props. The design team searched local craft stores and resell shops for the supplies needed for each scene, spending hours crafting paper butterflies, stars, hearts, kites, and books that appeared to take flight.
Over weekends and late nights, families whose lives had been impacted by the hospital's work stopped by the Atomicdust office to be photographed for the report.
“We had so much fun hanging out with the families that we decided to shoot family portraits as keepsakes,” said Spakowski.
To take advantage of expanded publishing options and changing reading preferences, Atomicdust created an interactive edition of the report for iBooks. The electronic platform provides a convenient alternative to the print piece and has enabled the hospital to share the report with a broader audience.
“Atomicdust brought fresh and innovative ideas to the table that surprised and impressed our team and hospital executives,” said the St. Louis Children's Hospital team. “We appreciate the efforts of Atomicdust to help our organization really stand out in the market."
