Icethaw road grit supplier is on standby to deliver rock salt around the country after weathermen predicted the first cold snap of the British winter is about to strike.

The Met Office reported that Scotland and the north of England would experience below-average drops in temperature, leading to snow in some areas which could move further south in hillier areas.

Icethaw, one of the oldest established independent rock salt suppliers in the UK, expects a flurry of last-minute ordering as local authority gritting teams, businesses and garden centres stock up ahead of the freeze.

Barry Dearing, a director at Icethaw, which supplies rock salt to local councils, gritting facilitators, retailers and home users, underlined the importance of being prepared.

“Icethaw's national distribution centres are on standby to transport traditional brown rock salt and other de-icing products to wherever they are needed.

“We suggest people make their orders now so they are ready to make roads and pedestrian areas safer.”

Icethaw's standard delivery time is within three to four days, though same day, next day and weekend deliveries can also be arranged.

As well as traditional brown rock salt (road grit) they also supply white rock salt and a range of de-icers suitable for different environments that require cleaner ice removal.
