Nexercise CEO to Take Part in TEDMED's High-Profile Dialog

Ben Young, the CEO and Co-Founder of Nexercise and visionary behind its top weight loss app, set to participate in the TEDMED Great Challenges Program, now getting underway.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) October 30, 2012

Nexercise CEO and Co-Founder Ben Young has been invited to participate in an exciting online discussion of vital issues in wellness. TEDMED, a world-renowned community of thought leaders who come together to discuss the future of health and medicine, has identified “The 20 Great Challenges of Health and Medicine.” These challenges range from “Managing Chronic Diseases” to “Addressing Health Care Costs,” and “Eliminating Medical Errors,” among others.

One of the newly announced challenges, and the one Nexercise was asked to weigh in on, is “Making Prevention Popular.” According to TEDMED, “America spends $2 trillion a year on healthcare — mostly treating people after they become sick.” TEDMED asked, “How can we unlock prevention as a trillion-dollar business in America so we spend less on ‘sick care' and get Americans to ‘buy' healthy lifestyles?” Addressing that question is where Mr. Young and the Nexercise weight loss app come in.

As part of a six-person, all-star team that is focused on the challenge of prevention, Mr. Young is joining thought leaders in policy, medicine, research, wellness, and business. Mr. Young will offer the perspectives of leading start-up entrepreneurs who are actively addressing the health industry, and succeeding in making a difference in people's lives. According to Young, “This is a big problem that requires big solutions.” He continues by saying, “A lot of innovation concerning prevention will come from entrepreneurs and, specifically, companies like Nexercise, that focus on behavior modification.”

How The Program Works

Several weeks ago, the Great Challenges forum was opened up for discussion and the TEDMED community was asked to submit its questions to the panel. TEDMED then put together a list of the top ten, crowd-sourced questions and presented them to the Prevention Challenge Team for consideration. The team members are currently reviewing the questions and will offer their responses to the TEDMED community in the coming weeks.

This Team's replies to the initial ten questions are intended to kick off a sustained dialog on the complex issues surrounding prevention. In addition to Q&A, there will also be two, live online events in the coming year as well as a lot of healthy discussion on how to address this national challenge.

Everyone with an interest in health and medicine is invited to join the TEDMED community and check out the website, where visitors can read the interviews with Mr. Young and his team members, post their own questions and comments, and engage with the Challenge Team and other community members as the discussion unfolds over the next several months.
