The Common Core Institute announces national conference January 31 - February 1, 2013 in Albuquerque, New Mexico focusing on CCSS and the needs of diverse learners.

Oakbrook Terrace, IL (PRWEB) October 29, 2012

The Common Core Institute has announced the National Conference on Common Core State Standards and Diverse Learners. The national conferences attract attendees from across the U.S. and from more than a dozen countries. Administrators, teachers, and faculty, learn from leading Common Core experts and engage in a collaborative environment providing valuable strategies and hands-on experience for meeting the needs of today's diverse learners.

Promising increased rigor in the classroom, the new “Common Core” standards have been adopted across the United States. The challenge for school districts is that study after study shows less than 25% of our students are ready – for the new standards, and for the new tests to be introduced in 2014.

Educators will get a first taste of the new Common Core assessments at the upcoming National Conference being held at the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown Hotel in Albuquerque, NM on January 31st and February 1st of next year. Educators can learn more about the conference and register on the Common Core Website at: http://commoncoreinstitute.org/abq.aspx A discounted registration is available for a limited time.

According to Kevin E. Baird, Chairman at the Institute, the critical issue is how schools approach the standards. States Baird, “If we view the standards as just a new checklist of things to teach, we will fail. To meet College & Career Readiness requirements, we need to get fifth graders reading at today's eighth grade level. The NAEP results indicate more writing is critical. The new assessments require thinking – not just ‘knowing'. Accelerating two to three grade levels is more than a challenge – but it is possible.”

The CCSS ensure ALL students will be provided rigorous activities and challenging texts. To facilitate this transition for our English Language Learner students, teachers and administrators will explore ways to "amplify" instruction, not "simplify" throughout the conference.

The Common Core Institute is pleased to announce that Dr. Carol Johnson, Sue Gendron from SMARTERBalanced, Dr. Anna Lisa Banegas-Peña, Dr. Patricia Jimenez-Latham, Penny Reinart, Dr. Rober E. Probst, and Dr. Kylene Beers, author of the best-selling book, When Kids Can't Read/What Teachers Can Do, have been confirmed as speakers for the event.
