WSI Pilotbrief Optima for the iPad Selected by Jet Linx

Weather Authority's Aviation-Weather iPad App Enhances Safety and Customer Experience for Private Jet Leader

Andover, Ma (PRWEB) October 29, 2012

WSI (Weather Services International), the most trusted name in aviation weather, today announced that Jet Linx has selected WSI Pilotbrief Optima for the iPad as its mobile weather –flight- planning application of choice. Jet Linx, a leading, national, private jet company, has locations in: Omaha, Indianapolis, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Denver, San Antonio, Scottsdale and St. Louis.

WSI Pilotbrief Optima -- a cutting-edge version of the industry-leading WSI Pilotbrief -- combines high performance maps, high definition weather information, enhanced global overlays, real time weather updates, advanced weather graphics and personalization into one solution, taking aviation decision-support to a new, advanced level. Pilotbrief Optima for the iPad allows pilots to take all these innovative capabilities into the cockpit to choose more exact, optimal routes.

“Our pilots need to be prepared to fly anywhere in the world at a moment's notice. We use the WSI Pilotbrief Optima iPad app because of its superior graphic capabilities and excellent proprietary features, such as HD Radar, Echo Tops and Flight Plan Guidance (FPG) forecasts,” said Maynard Smith, Jet Linx Director of Operations. “The ability to take Pilotbrief Optima into the cockpit via the iPad app gives our pilots an edge in safety and in the ability to provide our customers with the best ride possible.”

WSI Pilotbrief Optima for the iPad's weather graphics, customizable forecasts and features like WSI HD Echo Tops (radar that indicates the top of a precipitation area), provide immediate insight into current, changing weather. WSI's HD Echo Tops, extending up to a one kilometer resolution, alert aviators on safe and unsafe flight areas. This one kilometer extension is four times better than most other aviation weather solutions provide. WSI's HD Echo Tops also includes the heights of all storms, not just some storm tops, as is indicated by the NEXRAD radar returns. The system also indicates a storm's forecast position in 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes, helping a pilot plan a route that avoids not only where the storm is now, but where it will be later.

The WSI app also displays custom forecasts in the form of WSI FPGs (Flight Plan Guidance) and WSI SIGMETs These EWINs-certified forecasts are global and provide information on convection, icing, turbulence, volcanic ash and other aviation hazards. FPGs take the guesswork out of interpreting severe weather by providing pilots with a clear and actionable picture of areas to avoid, anywhere in the world.

“Successful on-time flights through the US require foresight into changing weather conditions. Snowstorms, thunderstorms and many other weather hazards combine to account for over 70% of airline delays in the national airspace,” said Jamie Zajac, Pilotbrief Product Manager, WSI Aviation. “WSI, the global leader in disruptive weather, provides immediate insight into these and all other types of changing weather events through its HD weather graphics and custom forecasts. The best way to be aware and ahead of changing weather conditions is to use WSI for aviation decision support.” .

WSI will be demonstrating its complete aviation solution, including WSI Pilotbrief Optima and Pilotbrief Optima for the iPad at its Booth #4880, during the NBAA2012 Annual Convention, October 30 – November 1, in Orlando, FL. All are invited to visit the booth for presentations.
