(PRWEB UK) 29 October 2012
The Government has announced plans to introduce new legal powers for government departments to help reduce the billions of pounds it loses in uncollected debt.
According to an article on the BBC News website, the new legislation is expected to improve data sharing between departments and lead to greater efficiency in debt collection.
It is estimated that the government is owed over £20 billion, with £7 billion of unpaid debt written off each year. The figure equates to about £400 of unpaid debt for every household in the UK, including court fines, benefit overpayments and tax fines.
£1.7 billion of the unpaid debt is owed by individuals and households with multiple debits over multiple departments. Although data sharing is currently allowed between departments, there are many legal barriers. The legislation aims to allow different departments to share appropriate and proportionate information and pursue multiple debts in a single action.
Private Investigator Plymouth is often requested to trace debtors for individuals and businesses, with debt becoming an increasing problem in the economic climate.
A spokesperson from Private Investigator Plymouth said:
“With the economic climate as it is, tracing unpaid debts is more important than ever. We have over 35 years of experience of using tried and tested methods to trace debtors efficiently and discreetly. These figures of unpaid debt to the government are shocking and it is understandable that they are now taking increased measures to recover the money they are owed.”
