Shortage in France Extends Grace Period

2012 saw the French Goverment announce new measures to tackle drink driving across France. Due to a shortage in breathalysers, strict enforcement has been postponed, alerts I Spy Camping. The measures mean every driver in France needing to carry 2 alcohol breathalysers in their car at all times.

London, UK (PRWEB UK) 29 October 2012

I Spy Camping, the camping holidays specialist, announced in its blog this month that the French Government has had to extend the grace period for another 4 months until March 1st 2013.

The law came into force on July 1st 2012, with a grace period of 4 months whereby motorists during that time will only be reminded to acquire breathalysers, this period was due to expire on November 1st, but due to a continuing shortage of breathalysers in many regions of France, the grace period has been extended.

Will Goodridge, I Spy Camping founder, explains further 'We started receiving reports from families travelling to campsites in the summer that there was a shortage of breathalysers. We now understand that manufacturers have not been able to keep up with demand.'

The French drink-driving limit is 0.5mg per ml – significantly lower than in Ireland and the UK (where it's 0.8mg). A driver is liable for prosecution if over, or just equal to this limit, and also if they refuse to take the breathalyser test.

Goodridge continues 'Even with the grace period in place, we recommend UK drivers intending to make their way across the channel next year, to try and purchase a breathalyser pack as soon as they can from online retailers, rather than wait until they get to France'.
