Waterfront Properties Watches as South Florida Golfers Take on World at CIMB Classic

Tiger Woods, of Jupiter Island, and Tom Gillis, of Jupiter, are in the field in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

JUPITER, Fla. (PRWEB) October 27, 2012

Tiger Woods entered the exciting third round of the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, tied for fifth place with Brendon de Jonge and Kevin Na.

The famous Jupiter Island resident is a hot commodity in the far-away PGA Tour event – especially after he holed a gorgeous 37-foot chip shot on the seventh green during round two. Woods sits at four under par.

The 36-year-old is the No. 2 money leader in the world of golf – behind No. 1 Rory McIlroy, a member of The Bear's Club in Jupiter.

Tom Gillis, 44, of Jupiter, entered round three tied for 11th place with Trevor Immelman, Bo Van Pelt, Bill Haas, Charlie Wi, Chris Kirk, Martin Laird, Kevin Stadler and Pat Perez. Gillis is one under par.

The leader is Robert Garrigus, who, at seven under par, had a two-stroke lead at the idyllic Mines Resort & Golf Club. The purse is a cool $6.1 million. The tournament runs through Oct. 28.

Meanwhile, in San Antonio, Texas, The Champions Tour got under way on the AT&T Canyons Course at TPC San Antonio. Play in round one of the AT&T Championship was suspended, however, because of thunderstorms.

Competing for a part of the $1.85 million purse is Tequesta riverfront homeowner Mark Calcavecchia. The 52-year-old finished second in the 2011 tournament, following Fred Couples. Couples had to withdraw from the event this year because of injuries.

Other South Florida pros participating in the tournament, which runs through Oct. 28, are Lance Ten Broeck, 56, of Singer Island, Russ Cochran, 53, of Jupiter, Olin Browne, 53, of Hobe Sound, and Bernhard Langer, 55, of Boca Raton.

Waterfront Properties and Club Communities sells homes in many of the golf-course communities in which these professionals live, including The Medalist in Hobe Sound. For information, call Rob Thomson at 561-746-7272.
