A Cheshire Search & Rescue Team has received a donation of a life saving defibrillator as a thank you for providing basic trauma and casualty training to staff at local company PHS Compliance, whose head office is in Warrington. This donation means that the Cheshire Search & Rescue service now has a defibrillator on each of their vehicles, ensuring they can deliver a professional life saving service when people need it most
PHS Compliance employee, Mark Simpson, who is also a volunteer for Cheshire Search & Rescue said “I'm over the moon that ten of my colleagues are now able to step in and use the defibrillator should the need arise. As we are all aware defibrillators are starting to appear in public places more often now and as a team we firmly believe that simple, basic interventions like early defibrillation can help people to survive and it was a real pleasure to impart our knowledge to my colleagues at PHS Compliance in the hope that they will respond when needed and make a difference."
The Cheshire Search and Rescue Team is a charitable organisation consisting entirely of volunteers. As well as searching for missing people, the team is called upon to provide medical care to those they assist. PHS Compliance, one of the leading providers of testing and compliance in the UK, regularly carry out electrical testing on medical equipments including defibrillators.
Scott Martindale, sales manager for PHS Compliance, who attended the course, said “Almost 100,000+ people in the UK die of a cardiac arrest each year, many before they even reach hospital. The first 6 minutes are critical for the survival of the victim and with average ambulance response times of 8 minutes it's often too late to rely on the emergency services. We, at PHS, are passionate about providing automatic external defibrillators (AED) into the market place, providing training, monitoring and servicing.
