Westlake Village, CA (PRWEB) October 25, 2012

Sahara Knights-Martin, a freshman at Oaks Christian Online School (OCO), is a rising tennis player and online student. She won the annual Long Beach Eldorado Park Junior Satellite Tournament and the La Habra Tennis Center Junior Satellite Tournament and was looking forward to playing in her first open tournament. In early August, however, Sahara suffered a back injury that has kept her from competing. She is committed to her rehabilitation and training and spends most of her time at La Habra Tennis Center in Southern California. She works with her personal coaches, Ron Charles and Fernando Chavez, on technique, agility, and her future plans. As she puts it, “Training can be difficult, but if I want to achieve my goals then I must put all my effort into physical training.”

Sahara only started playing tennis when she was eleven, and has been told by coaches that she has potential for playing at the collegiate level. She credits her mom for driving her to training five days a week and researching playing opportunities as well as her schooling. She stated, “I really enjoy everything about tennis; it is what I spend most of my time doing. That is why I think that Oaks will be a good place for me to go to school, because it allows me to do both.”

Sahara's academic goals are set on UCLA where many of her family members attended college and where she will be able to tour with her online college counseling class in October. She is looking forward to this coming school year with OCO, as she is new to on-line learning and is excited about the opportunities it will give her to advance in the sport that she loves and excel academically. Both on the court and in the classroom, Sahara is a very dedicated student-athlete. Her self-motivation in everything she does is evident through her own reflection of her love for the sport. “My favorite part about tennis is the individuality; I like playing because if I make a mistake it is on me. The competition is fierce. I constantly have to think about what I am doing, and I cannot rely on anybody else. It is a smart and physical game. I love it!”
