Head First Development is hosting a fundraiser to benefit the women and children of Calcutta, India. The second annual Give Hope fundraiser party will be held in Salt Lake City on Oct. 25 at Pierpont Place from 6 to 10 p.m.
“Proceeds from the Give Hope party will be used to support Project Hope,” said Mark Long, director of Head First Development.
Project Hope provides health care, jobs and housing to women who are involved in the sex trade or at risk of becoming sex workers in India. Learn more at http://headfirstdevelopment.org/about-us/mission-and-vision.
“Nobody should have to sell their body to earn a living,” Long said. “I want to give these young women a chance to live an independent and empowered life.”
The Hope Clinic is located in one of Calcutta's most nefarious red-light neighborhoods and provides free health services to commercial sex workers and at-risk women.
The Hope Small Business project employs women to manage and operate a laundromat that processes linens for Calcutta Mercy Hospital. Once the Hope Small Business project becomes profitable, proceeds will be reinvested into other facets of Project Hope.
The Hope House is currently in the construction stage, but will provide housing for 100 girls whose futures would otherwise be ensnared within the red-light community.
Head First Development is one of a handful of organizations working to advance the Project Hope program to fight sex trafficking in India.
Head First Development's Give Hope fundraiser party will include live music, a buffet, bar, raffle and an after party with a disc jockey from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
“We have received food and drink donations from some of Salt Lake City's finest establishments, including Nothing Bundt Cakes and Red Cliffs Lodge,” Long said. “It's sure to be a great party and it's for a great cause. You're definitely not going to want to miss it.”
Tickets are $60 per person or $100 for a couple. To purchase tickets to Head First Development's Give Hope fundraiser, visit https://headfirstdevelopment.ticketbud.com/give-hope-2012 or buy the tickets at the door.
“I just want to thank all of our sponsors, Flyer Smiles, Pierpont Place, Issimo, New Creation Kitchens, Molding Box, PRMarketing.com, Natural Ventures and the event's producer, Michael Gray, of the Sawgrass Shack,” Long said. “Without them, none of this would be possible. They are directly benefiting the lives of many, many unfortunate women and children in India.”
