The solar industry is poised to grow exponentially according to a new report from CleanEdison Inc, that shows job growth is imminent thanks to a reduction in the price of solar panels and a drop in wind energy growth. These findings are further backed up by, a job search engine website.

According to CleanEdison, a clean energy training program provider, 36,000 new technical positions will be created in the solar industry by the year 2020 while wind energy is expected to only add 27,700 jobs. This is a 24-percent and 14-percent increase, respectively. Still, solar is anticipated to be the prominent alternative energy source for those trying to find jobs.

As more and more people utilize solar energy, there is an increased need for qualified technicians, including those who can install solar panels. According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, U.S.-based installers may see as much as 3.9 gigawatts worth of installations in 2013. This increase in demand for solar energy will create energy jobs in a variety of markets, not just in clean energy. This means there should be an increase in engineering jobs, construction jobs, and manufacturing jobs thanks to the solar energy boost and the 29-percent price drop in solar panel cost.

The forthcoming changes in the clean energy market are confirmed by The job search site has progressively shown an increase in jobs across all energy sectors, including green or clean energy. “Alternative fuel and clean energy are abundant markets right now,” says CEO, A. Harrison Barnes. “We anticipate the field will continue to grow across the country, but states with an already prominent solar energy presence like California, Nevada, New York, and Florida, should see the greatest job surge.”

Time will tell if the predictions pan out, but green jobs are currently on the rise at a quicker pace than the rest of the economy--a positive sign.
