SmartDebit comments on Santander account rewarding Direct Debit payees
Surrey-based Direct Debit Bureau, SmartDebit, have commented on Santander's reward scheme for Direct Debit payees.

Global banking giant Santander is now offering one per cent cashback to new and existing ‘123 Current' account holders who pay their Santander or Abbey for Intermediaries by Direct Debit. The scheme that started on Monday is open to Santander mortgage customers who open a 123 current account, when they pay via Direct Debit, up to £1000 a month.
Santander claims that this could save customers up to £120 annually. The 123 current account pays cashback on utility and household bills as well as interest on balances. The lender offers the following to customers paying by Direct Debit: One per cent cashback to customers paying their water, council tax and Santander mortgages, two per cent on electricity and gas bills, and three per cent on communication bills such as broadband and telephone.
The 123 current account was introduced in March this year following feedback from customers about what they would like from the account; cashback on mortgage payments was a popular request.
