Number of People Vaping in the UK Doubles in 2 Years
The latest figures from ASH show that the number of people using electronic cigarettes has doubled and interest continues to grow. E-cigs are seen as the healthy alternative to traditional tobacco cigarettes.
London, UK (PRWEB) October 25, 2012
The latest figures released by the Action on Smoking and Tobacco (ASH) group to Channel 4 show that the use of electronic cigarettes is gaining in popularity in the UK. They estimate that the number of smokers now using e-cigarettes has more than doubled from 3% of the smoking population in 2010 to more than 7% in 2012. This figure puts the number of regular electronic cigarette smokers or vapers as they call themselves at around 700,000.
The number of people who have tried vaping has also seen a significant increase with more than 22% of smokers having tried an e-cig in 2012 up from 9% in 2010. With more than 10 million people still regularly smoking cigarettes in the UK vaping has a long way to go before it overtakes the popularity of real cigarettes. However it appears that progress is being made as it offers people a genuine way to either quit or enjoy nicotine and smoking without ruining their health.
The rise in popularity of vaping in the UK can be put down to the many advantages that come with it. The health risks of smoking are well documented and have been known for many years although it has not deterred people from smoking. E-cigarettes have none of the 400 hundred of so harmful chemicals that are found in tobacco based products. Instead they use cartridges filled with either PG (Proplylene Glycol) or VG (Vegetable Glycerin), nicotine and flavourings.
The rapidly rising cost of tobacco based cigarettes is another reason why many smokers in the UK are turning to e-cigs. With the price of 20 cigarettes close to £8, a 20 a day smoker is spending nearly £3,000 every year on their nicotine habit. The cost of vaping is around £1 per day and can be even cheaper with DIY E-liquid kits. There are hundreds of different flavours for e-cigs ranging from regular tobacco and menthol to bubble-gum, rum and even tiramisu flavours. They are legal to smoke indoors and produce none of the smells or smoke of regular cigarettes.
The experts at e-cigarettesuk.co.uk say that vaping will only become more popular as more people in the UK come to realise the health and financial benefits of e-cigs. Whether they are used as a means of giving up tobacco or for the pleasure of vaping e-cigarettes are definitely here to stay.
